  • standup

OK, so I just tried stand-up comedy at an open mic event at Berkeley’s on-campus Gelateria (yes, we have one).  I was really awful, but oh well.

So, I guess that means I’m going to have to stick with comics, when I can.  =)

  • Been Better?

Hey everyone! I’m still busy, and getting even busier…notably, I just got back from a ballroom dance competition at Harvard!

I still miss doing comics, but longtime reader kiwi5frog recently recommended another Xanga-published comic to me. It’s really good, and the art is certainly better than anything I’ve done. Check it out!

  • The end of joe_x.  (An explanation’s in order.)

So, it’s been almost a year since I’ve posted anything decent, and the truth is I’ve been busy with work.  But now that it’s almost a year since I’ve posted anything, and now that I’ve entered a number of other commitments, I think it’s time for joe_x to finally end for a while.  Perhaps forever.

Here’s what’s happening:  At the end of September last year (11 months ago) a local company declined my résumé (see edit> here).  So on my personal xanga, I posted “will someone please give me a job?”  Long story short, someone was watching, and I started work for a company in New York, as an independent contractor doing advertising design.  Kinda goes to show, you never know what will happen based on what you write in a blog.

Oh yeah…did I mention that the company is Xanga?

So rather than work on the comics, I’ve been trying to hold a part-time job (which I’d like to make as full-time as possible) creating layouts like this one and video players like this one in Adobe Photoshop and Macromedia Flash.  I also did the postable video (encoding the video and coding the player) that I posted last time.  I’ve also made a couple of banner ads and sponsored modules (such as for Boost Mobile and The Fog).

So.  I moved into Berkeley a week and a half ago, and I have my fourth day of classes tomorrow.  I’m also joining Berkeley DanceSport, because I’m all about swing dancing and ballroom dancing.  So between that, and school, and work, I don’t think I’ll really have any time to kick around.  And if I do, I’m more interested in broadening my horizons to general comics…not so much Xanga centric ones.  (Though I was tempted by the recent offerings of Premium text editing and 1gig photo storage…I still have work and studying to do tonight.)

So maybe I’ll come back to Joe X. someday, but I probably won’t.  I thank everyone who reads, or has read; I won’t be taking these comics down anytime soon.  You guys really rock.

If any of you go to Berkeley, come have coffee with me sometime…email me at joexangan@gmail.com and I’ll figure out how to meet up with you.  For now, thanks everyone.  It’s been fun.

    Take care,

p.s.>  I’m not a Xanga employee, so it’s not really a big deal.  But in case you see some advertising around here to help keep Xanga free (and get you free Premium, maybe), I probably made it.

p.p.s.>  If I ever decide to make some different comics, I’ll probably end up posting them to Xanga first.  And you’ll definitely be one of the first to know.  =)

  • So, here’s a video for you to check out.  I know this is a really crappy way for me to post back, but I’ve been so busy with work, it’s the best I can do for now.

More about work later.  For now, I’ll be seeing what kind of comics I can come up with.

  • Hey!

Sorry for not updating…I’m currently in Bath, England, on a Graduation Celebration trip.  I’ll be back next week, and I have a few ideas for comics I’ve beek cooking up on 12-hour plane rides…

…and if I happen to have any London swing-dancing readers, I hope I see you Thursday evening at The Hammersmith Club!  =)  [http://www.swingland.co.uk/]

Hope everyone’s having fun…thanks for your patience, and I’ll do my best to come back!

  • If you’re new to my comics, keep reading.  All the rest of you, go change your layout or something.  =).

Seeing as how I haven’t made a comic in a few days, I figured I’d show some of my older favorite ones that some of my newer readers might not have seen.  Feel free to comment on the individual ones on their own page, or on all of them right here; don’t worry, I *will* read what you have to say.

So, until I post another comic (soon, I promise), have fun, kiddies.

  • Xanga Comic #53:  Good luck.

rant>  So, I don’t know if you know this, but I get at least two or three chain comments per comic (at least, on my most recent comics).  I happen to think chain comments (and emails) are some of the most annoying things to cross the country since Al Gore invented the Internet.  I think chain comments waste my readers’ bandwidth, having to read through pages of “make a wish!…………………………………………”.  It drives me crazy.  But, I guess it worked for her up above.  =)  </rant

So, I did this while people in my history class talked at us, and in Math while watching Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.  (That movie is hilarious, and thanks to Dmac79 for correcting my atroshius speling.  )  I don’t know how much time I’m going to have, since I have IB English Papers 1 and 2, and IB History Papers 1, 2, and 3 (for a grand total of 2 long essays, 5 short essays, and a DBQ).  Whine whine.  If I can’t get a new comic done, I’ll see if I can post links to my old favorites or something.

Adios for now, and thanks for reading.  You rock.

p.s.>  If you’d like, you can get one of my buttons by clicking “link buttons” up above in the flash banner.  And, look at that, you can go up and click put this comic on my xanga! and share the comics, if you like.  Enjoy!  =)
